When I first came into the practice, I had never had any braces or orthodontic work before. And so when I came in, I originally came in for a cleaning and they were able to explain to me what was wrong with my bite and take what I wanted, which was eventually to get some sort of veneer placement, and explained how Invisalign would work with my smile and fix my bite, so that I could get to my goal of getting those veneers on eventually. I originally was very hesitant because I was about to start my career after I graduated from law school and I wanted to make sure that I didn’t have Invisalign or any sort of brace in my mouth when I was walking into the courtroom or doing things along those lines. They were pretty much able to explain the timeline extensively and I was made more comfortable after their explanation with the fact that I would only be in the trays for about a year, maybe a year and a half with some adjustments. That put my mind at ease with where I was going to start in my career. I’ve almost forgotten about the fact that I’m in Invisalign right now. I always can feel it whenever I change trays, the day after I change trays because your teeth are realigning, but I can always call here and ask them if I feel any discomfort or anything and get an explanation as to that. Other than that, I haven’t felt any extreme discomfort. And like I said, this is my first time in orthodontic work. So at first was not used to it at all and now I’ve gotten very used to it. So for me it’s actually been surprising that when I meet people and talk to them and then later on they find out that I am in Invisalign, they’re always like, “Oh, I never would have noticed.” I think that’s kind of what sets it apart rather than the traditional braces that you see a lot of people in, is that you don’t always notice right off the bat that you’re in Invisalign. That was my biggest worry cosmetically, especially going into work meetings and things like that. Not that it’s bad to have braces or anything like that, but for me, I just wanted that comfort to know that maybe people wouldn’t know that I was in Invisalign.
I had some real issues with my teeth and I was very … My teeth looked really bad. There was a time, I can’t even tell you how bad they looked. And Dr. Mayes told me what should be done to improve the health of my teeth. I decided to get dental veneers because there were some cracks in my teeth and the gum tissue was showing. And more than anything, I was feeling pain. When I was touching my gum tissues and brushing, I could feel, my God, it’s painful. And then I decided, yes it’s going to cost, but then I knew that that was the right decision to keep my teeth longer and I didn’t want my teeth to fall by all these problems. So I decided to have this teeth thing done. And I’m just happy because their decision and my decision combined, it was the right decision. And once he did that job on my teeth, even today, I can’t believe how many compliments I get. The best compliment I got is from my son. “Mom, you have the prettiest teeth in the family.” I was like, “Okay, thank you.” So, I get lots of compliments, even from strangers. They will just stop and say, and I’m like, “What are they saying?” But I know that Dr. Mayes have done a wonderful job, and I’ve seen the mirror, and I know my teeth, they’re the best feature of my face.
I had braces for three years, so I always want my teeth to be straight. I’ve had my retainers since I got my braces off like 15 years ago, so I just want to make sure that everything’s still in line and what we can do to make sure that my teeth stay straight for the rest of my life. Another thing that was very important to me, I don’t want any cavities. I have seen what happens when people don’t take care of their teeth, so even at the slightest sight of a cavity, I want to do as much as I can to take care of that as soon as possible so I don’t have any prolonged damage down the road. In my comprehensive layout, they gave me all sorts of new photographs. They did new molds for my teeth. They went over, step by step, everything that I needed to make my teeth as healthy as possible. They laid out a 12-month plan for me that was very specific for what my teeth need. Every time I come to Preston Dental Center, it feels like everyone’s your friend. Everyone here is very professional, and the moment I walked in, greeted with a smile, and that always makes you feel good. Dr. Ike has definitely the best chairside manner of any doctor I’ve ever had. He’s very attentive. He wants to make sure you’re very comfortable. He also wants to make sure that you’re educated on everything that he’s doing. He and his assistant will usually go through, step by step, everything that they’re going to do for the day, and that makes you always a little more comfortable. I always used to walk into my old dental office, and it was kind of dreary. No one really seemed thrilled to be there, and that makes a huge difference, because honestly, no one’s always thrilled about going to the dentist, but when everyone else is happy to be there, that makes it a lot better for you and you’re happy to be there.
Well, I had trouble with the enamel eroding from my teeth. So my teeth were short and so therefore I didn’t smile very much and I did not like the look I saw when I looked in the mirror. My teeth were healthy, but that’s just a condition that I have. So I needed some help. Dr. Mayes and I decided to go with crowns because all of my teeth needed some help. The day of the procedure, I was here at 6:00 in the morning and I was here in the chair for eight hours, and I must say it was challenging. It wasn’t painful. I never got to where I wanted to quit. I just knew that it was going to be worth it and it was. Well, I actually had to get used to having beautiful teeth. I was like, these are too white, these are too long. This is not me. But it was a better me and I am really, really pleased with what I see when I look in the mirror. My family really loves. I think it’s because I smile more and I just seem happier and that’s because I am. My friends they can’t tell, “You just look wonderful. What is it?” They don’t think that I had dental work. They just think that I look beautiful and there’s something special about me, and that’s because of my special smile.
Well, I came here about seven, eight years ago and I had to do a total reconstruction of my teeth. A lot of them were decaying. And I came from the third world country and unfortunately, the dental care there wasn’t very good. And I also play ice hockey, and some of the teeth had impact from the being hit. And a lot of stuff had to be done. It was a long process, took about two years all together to do the entire teeth, but we’re talking about 20, 25 teeth being taken care of. Had a lot of implants done, five of them. A lot of crowns and they took their time. They basically went with the paste that I want to go with. And very, very happy with the results. And now, I have a lot more confidence when I smile. For years, I’ve had trouble. Basically, you look at every picture that I had before, I’d never smile because my smile was just terrible. My front teeth were gray and discolored, and I just did not have that confidence, even at the parties, talking to people. And after Dr. Greg fixed my teeth, immediately I had such a boost of confidence and that improved my social life a lot. And just looking at the pictures now, I’m always happy and smile and that’s really a great feeling.
