At the Preston Dental Center, we take pride in staying on the cutting-edge of dental technology, including drill-free laser dentistry. Our cosmetic dentists, Dr. J. Gregory Mayes and Dr. Lisa H. Mayes, use advanced, safe lasers to treat teeth, enamel, and gums that suffer from decay. In addition, laser dentistry — available to our Cary, Durham, and Raleigh-area patients —often results in significantly faster healing time and stronger, less sensitive teeth. We use these effective treatments and techniques to ensure the best results for our general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry patients.
We utilize the very latest developments in cosmetic dentistry technology and techniques. In addition to the technologies discussed below, we also offer Invisalign® and sedation dentistry to our North Carolina patients. Our cosmetic dentists use only FDA-approved, safe technologies because your health is our greatest concern. Thanks to this approach, our patients have achieved dramatic smile transformations. To view a sampling of these smile makeovers, visit our before-and-after gallery. If you would like to know more about laser dentistry, contact our cosmetic dentists in Cary to arrange a consultation.
DIAGNOdent® is an advanced laser dentistry diagnostic device that aids our cosmetic dentists in the detection of subsurface caries (cavities). The conventional method of detecting cavities involves looking for soft spots by pressing an explorer into the pits and grooves on the biting surface. However, this detection method is only successful 50 to 75 percent of the time. DIAGNOdent® is extremely accurate and removes much or all of the guesswork. Mechanical exploratory methods are limited to finding only those carries that are equal in size to or larger than the explorer tip. In contrast, DIAGNOdent® laser cavity detection identifies areas of decay at the earliest possible stage, before substantial damage is done.
By detecting decay early, we are able to place smaller composite fillings and preserve more natural tooth structure. DIAGNOdent® is just one of the many state-of-the-art laser dentistry technologies we utilize at our Raleigh, Durham, and Cary-area office. Contact the Preston Dental Center and arrange a consultation today.
Waterlase® is an amazing new tool that allows many dental procedures to be performed without the use of needles or drills. Combining the power of laser energy with atomized water, Waterlase® can remove hard and soft tissue quickly, effectively, and virtually painlessly. Waterlase® eliminates the heat and vibration that make drilling painful, while offering greater precision and accuracy. Waterlase® can be used to remove tooth decay, perform soft tissue procedures, remove enamel, prepare for cosmetic treatment, and remove diseased gum tissue. Most patients do not require anesthesia when being treated with Waterlase®.
One American dies every hour as a result of oral cancer. ViziLite® is an advanced diagnostic tool used for comprehensive oral screening. ViziLite® identifies soft tissue abnormalities in the mouth and is particularly important to patients at an increased risk for developing oral cancer. ViziLite® enables Dr. Farinacci to identify abnormal tissue growth before it develops into oral cancer. The ViziLite® exam, performed immediately following a regular visual examination, is fast and painless.
The intraoral camera is an invaluable patient education tool. The use of mirrors and lights to show the patient the condition of his or her dental health is very limited as it is very difficult to see anything but the front of one’s own teeth. With the intraoral camera, though, our cosmetic dentists and patients can take video tours of the mouth, identifying trouble and possible treatment options along the way. This pen-sized, camera-tipped wand takes pictures of your teeth and gums that you can view on a TV screen in real time. As a result, we can view the condition of your dental health together.
Examinations with the intraoral camera allow patients to get involved with their treatment and get excited about their results. To arrange a consultation with our cosmetic dentists and their skilled laser dentistry team, contact our Raleigh, Durham, and Cary-area office.
Digital x-rays are an advanced technology that utilizes up to 90 percent less radiation than traditional x-ray techniques. Almost immediately after digital X-rays are taken, they can be presented on a computer monitor for the patient to see and understand. This image can be rotated, enlarged, and adjusted for contrast and brightness. The quality of these images is superior to that of the x-rays of the past, enabling more efficient diagnosis and treatment.
The quickly arriving, clear computer images allow us to discuss the findings with our patients immediately. Together, we can examine the inner and outer structures of the teeth and bones as we discuss all the steps of the recommended treatment. Because our patients clearly understand the state of their dental health, we are able to work together to determine the very best treatment options for each person.
For the hundreds of thousands of American dental patients who suffer from fear of anesthetic syringes, the Wand® is a calming and effective treatment option. The Wand® is a computer-controlled local anesthetic delivery system. The pain and discomfort associated with an injection is a product of the pressure created by the flow of the anesthetic, but the Wand® carefully controls this flow in order to relieve this discomfort greatly. In doing so, the Wand® also ensures that the correct amount of anesthetic is delivered.
